RagaMuffins are direct descendants of Josephine, the foundation queen of Ms Ann Baker's original IRCA Ragdoll lines. Ms Baker developed a number of breeds of large cats with exceptionally docile, sweet temperaments, and easy care coats and she called them Cherubims. She called her pointed Cherubims Ragdolls and non-pointed Cherubims Miracle Ragdolls. The earlier RagaMuffins were bred in isolation as IRCA Ragdolls for 30 years and never exhibited to the public during this period. In 1994, RagaMuffin breeders decided to leave the IRCA and because of the valid trademark on the Ragdoll name they changed the name to RagaMuffin because they were developed from the endearing little urchin cats in Riverside, California. Today, Ragamuffins are fully accepted for registrations including ACFA (American Cat Fanciers Association) which is our primary and original registry, UFO (United Feline Organization), NCFA (National Cat Fancier's Association), CFF (Cat Fancier's Federation) and also accepted for Miscellaneous Class in CFA and registration status in TICA (The International Cat Association).
The original IRCA Ragdolls were not all colorpoints. Ms Baker registered the solids and other colors without blue eyes as Miracle Ragdolls and used them in her breeding program. RagaMuffin breeders believed the non-colorpoints are as worthy of preserving and promoting as the colorpoints. RagaMuffins are similar to Ragdolls in many ways but the major difference is the range of recognized colors. While Ragdolls are blue eyed colorpoints, RagaMuffins are recognized in variety of colors including the solids, tabbies, smokes, tortoiseshells, minks, etc. They may also have green, blue green, green blue, aqua, gold, gold green, green gold, or odd eyes.
